Built for everyone

Accessibility statement

Healthcare information should be usable by everyone, regardless of ability, device, or connection. Here's where we stand, how to tailor the platform to your needs, and how to reach us if something isn't working for you.

Our commitment

We're actively working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across the platform. This is an ongoing effort, not a one-time checkbox, and we review and improve it as the platform grows.

Conformance status: Partially conformant. This means most, but not yet all, parts of the platform fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. Conformance is assessed through our own internal review rather than an external audit.

What's built in today

A skip link on every page for keyboard and screen-reader users, so you never have to tab through the whole navigation.

Visible focus

Every interactive element shows a clear focus indicator. Focus is never hidden or suppressed.

Reduced motion respected

Animation is minimized automatically if your operating system is set to reduce motion.

Not color-only

Risk results and form errors are always labeled in text, never conveyed by color alone.

Real form labels

Forms use associated labels rather than placeholder-only text, and errors are described in plain language.

Text alternatives

Every non-decorative icon and image has a text alternative for screen readers.

Headings & landmarks

Pages are built with semantic HTML and ARIA landmarks, so screen readers can move through them in a logical order and skip between regions.

Language & reading

Three languages, including right-to-left

KanouHealth is available in English, French, and Arabic. Arabic is presented in a full right-to-left layout, not just translated text. Switch language from the menu in the navigation bar; if you have an account, your choice is saved to it and follows you to any device.

Plain, calm wording

Results and recommendations are written to inform without alarming. The tool never tells you that you have diabetes; it describes a risk level in everyday language and points you to a healthcare professional. We avoid medical jargon wherever a plain word will do.

Designed for real-world conditions

Many of the people KanouHealth is built for are on modest phones, shared devices, or slow or metered connections. We keep that in mind:

No account required

The full assessment works without signing up, so a missing email address or a forgotten password never stands between you and your result. An account only adds saving and history.

Light pages

Pages are kept small, with no autoplaying video and no third-party advertising or tracking scripts, so they load on a weak connection and don't burn through mobile data.

Media on your terms

Educational videos and handouts are plain links you choose to open, not content forced to load on the page.

Your local time

Dates and times are shown in your own timezone, so reminders and saved results read correctly wherever you are.

Customize your experience

A few built-in ways to make KanouHealth more comfortable to use:

Light / dark theme

Use the theme toggle in the navigation bar to switch to a dark theme, which many people with light sensitivity find easier to read. Your choice is remembered on your device.

Browser zoom

The layout is built to reflow cleanly up to 200% browser zoom (Ctrl/Cmd and + or -), for larger text without losing content.

Keyboard navigation

Every page, menu, and form can be operated with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and Space alone, no mouse required.

Screen readers

Pages are structured with headings and landmarks so screen readers can navigate and announce content in a logical order.

Compatibility

KanouHealth is built with standard, semantic HTML and ARIA, and is designed to work with recent versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and common assistive technologies, including screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA, and Android TalkBack. Older browser versions may not render every visual refinement correctly, but core functionality should still work.

The multi-step assessment and the instant search box need JavaScript to work. Reading pages — including this one, the Privacy Policy, the Terms, and the Education Center — does not.

Known limitations

We'd rather be honest about the gaps than claim a perfect score:

  • The newest assessment questions and a few reminder labels are not yet translated into Arabic and currently show in English while a native speaker reviews them.
  • The step-by-step assessment and the live search dropdown rely on JavaScript; with it disabled, those specific features are unavailable.
  • Some embedded third-party content (such as a video player or a document preview) is outside our control and may not meet every guideline.
  • As the platform grows, some newer pages or content may not yet meet every guideline perfectly.

If you encounter a barrier, please tell us below, it helps us prioritize fixes.

Tell us about a barrier

If any part of KanouHealth is difficult to use with a screen reader, keyboard alone, screen magnification, or any other assistive technology, please let us know by email. Include the page and what happened, if you can, it helps us fix it faster. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within a few days.
